Zoning Administrator’s Duties & Responsibilities

The Zoning Administrator has many responsibilities, including:

  • Meeting with Township residents regarding zoning permits and requests; returning phone calls requesting zoning information.
  • Analyzing the Township’s ordinances to determine whether a zoning request meets the ordinance requirements.
  • Composing letters, memos to Township residents or Township boards.
  • Researching zoning issues and attending conferences to get information on current issues in zoning.

Please call Gretchen if you have questions regarding fences, pools, additions, accessory buildings, and animals.  This list is not all-inclusive.  She can give you directions on how to proceed and the cost of each permit.

Code Enforcement

Our Code Enforcement Officer is here to help address your concerns about potential Township Ordinance violations. It is our goal, through our township ordinances, to make our Township a better, cleaner, and more beautiful environment for our residents and visitors.

If you feel there is an ordinance violation within our township, we will be happy to investigate it for you.

To file a complaint, please submit the Code Enforcement Violation Request form or contact our Code Enforcement Officer Adam Daugharty at
(989) 529-0926.

FAQ

How long is my zoning permit valid for?

One year

Do I need a zoning permit for any and all work?

Siding, exchange of same size doors, replacing a roof and windows do not need a zoning permit. Any new structure or change to the footprint of any building, or pool or fence does need a Zoning Permit. Call Gretchen Nielsen if unsure.

Can I have chickens in the Township?

There is a limit, and roosters are NOT allowed.  Please see section 312 of the Zoning Ordinance for  more detail.

Does the Township allow Short Term Rentals?

We do. That information can be found in Section 1109. We currently have our limit of 8 in the Township.

Where is my septic system?

We do not have that information. The Saginaw County Health Department (989-758-3800) may be able to help you with the location of your septic system.

Where are my lot lines?

We do not have that information. The website sagagis.org can help give you an approximation of your lot lines but a survey of your property is the only way to make sure.

What zoning district am I in?

You can view your zoning district at sagagis.org. Or call Gretchen Nielsen.

My neighbor’s yard is a full of trash. What can we do about that?

There is a code enforcement complaint form to fill out on our website and our code enforcement officer will look into it.

My neighbors haven’t mowed in a while. What can I do?

Nothing. We currently have no tall grass and weed ordinance.
